Broomfield gets its electricity from Xcel Energy or United Power, and Xcel supplies the gas. Your gas and electric bills decide which utility rebates you get on a heat pump.
Check your bills
Find the charge billed in kWh. Whoever sends it is your electric utility. Then check who bills your gas.
- Xcel gas gets you Xcel's full heat pump rebate, whoever supplies the electricity.
- Xcel electric without Xcel gas gets Xcel's standard amount only.
- Electricity billed by United Power means you're a United Power member, and United Power has its own rebate too.

On Xcel Energy
The amounts changed on October 1, 2026, so a quote from September may use the old figure. See the current Xcel rebates.
On United Power
United Power's heat pump rebate is for members replacing existing equipment. The system has to meet United Power's efficiency minimums. You apply within 90 days of the install, and the check comes six to eight weeks later. See the United Power rebate details.
On either utility
- Power Ahead Colorado pays on cold-climate heat pumps in existing Broomfield homes. We have to file it before work starts, so it goes on the quote from day one.
- The Colorado heat pump discount comes off your invoice as its own line, so you don't file anything. The heat pump has to carry at least 80% of the home's yearly heating, so a single head for one room doesn't qualify.
The city's group buy

Furnaces and AC
Xcel gas customers get a small rebate on a 95% furnace installed through 2026. An AC alone has no utility rebate here. Power Ahead and the state discount pay on heat pumps only, which is one reason most of our whole-house replacements now include one.
What your quote should show
Ask for the full price, each program on its own line, and what you pay at the end. A program that still needs approval should say so. Send your photos and we'll put the right utility on yours.

My gas bill is from Xcel. Am I on Xcel for rebates?
Yes. Xcel pays its full heat pump rebate to homes with Xcel gas, even when United Power bills the electricity. United Power also has its own rebate, and we check whether both apply.
Does Power Ahead Colorado work in Broomfield?
Yes, on either electric utility. It pays on cold-climate heat pumps in existing homes, and the contractor has to file it before work begins.
